How gauge numbering works

Color codes: a convention, not a guarantee

Hypodermic needles follow a standardized color code (pink for 18G, cream for 19G, yellow for 20G, green for 21G, black for 22G, blue for 23G), and some implanter needle lines borrow it. Others use proprietary hub colors, or color by product family rather than by gauge. Treat color as a convenience within one brand and never as a cross-brand identifier — the printed gauge and the datasheet dimensions are the only reliable references when mixing suppliers.

Compatibility: pen and needle are a system

Implanter needles seat into a specific pen body, and hub geometry is not standardized across brands.
